新しい人 (romanized: Atarashii Hito, English: New Person) is a song by Fishmans, written by Shinji Sato. It first appeared on the band's fifth studio album, 空中キャンプ, where it appears as a closer at track 8. The song relies heavily on samples, being the most "dub"-heavy track on the album.
In Pool Volume 10, several members of Fishmans discuss the track:
Sato: It's a bonus track, only for the Japanese edition of the album (laughs). Neri representative: Lucky for Japanese people (laughs).
Sato: This is an awesome song. I've been thinking about the color of this album... and this is the song that best expresses that. The melody, the atmosphere...
Neri representative: "One, two..." What is that sample?
Sato: That's what a kid in the neighborhood said. One night when I was sleeping, a child nearby was singing constantly, and I happened to be alone with my equipment. I recorded it with DAT, I thought I could use it later. There was a kid saying "Let's go! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, yes." The two of us take turns writing and singing songs, and for this one the kid wrote the counting.
[VERSE 1]
I walked to the city at dawn, it looks so beautiful
There's nothing
If you look around, there's nothing irritating or frustrating about it
[VERSE 2]
What should music be (resounded) for?
In such a quiet world
To those whose hearts are trembling, to those who are waiting for a letter
It would be nice if it reached them
[PRE-CHORUS]
Surprised faces, soothing voices, flying songs
See, I want to tell you so much, hey
[CHORUS]
A new person, an uncool person
Call them, call them, call them
A kind person, a miserable person
Call them, call them, call them
[VERSE 3]
How wonderful it would be to walk to the sea at dawn
There's nothing
If you look around, there's nothing, there's nothing
