"Dub" is a musical genre Fishmans, as well as many other similar acts commonly play. Rating aggregate website RateYourMusic describes "dub" as "primarily instrumental reggae", as well as elaborating that it is "characterised by emphasis on the rhythm track, extensive use of sound effects and heavy reverb", also labeling the genre as a kind of electronic music as well as reggae. This means that dub music is a kind of reggae where heavy usage of electronics, reverb and (most importantly) recurrent sampling are everpresent. A common way to see this implemented into Fishmans' music is to pay attention to when a sample is looped to form a foundation for a greater song, otherwise known as a "riddim" track by reggae artists (a great example would be Walking in the Rhythm, found on their seventh album 宇宙 日本 世田谷). These samples used don't have to be "found" or otherwise created by a third party; in fact it's much more common to create such samples oneself, which is what Fishmans most commonly does (although it's not unheard of to see Fishmans sampling third-party source material). Through their extensively polite demeanor, the genre of "dub" was fused with the later explored genre of "Rock" and thus "Dream Pop" came to.
