Kazufumi Kodama (born こだま和文; January 29, 1955) is a Japanese trumpet player and producer for some of Japan's earliest and most influential dub groups. His claim to fame is the work he's done with group Mute Beat in the late 80s, many articles citing this group as the very first dub group to exist in Japan. Even if this isn't true, he certainly pushed the genre to its most popular in the country. In 1991, Kodama assisted in the creation of Fishmans' first album Chappie, Don't Cry as an executive producer from label Virgin Japan. Despite having minimal to no involvement with the band beyond the creation of this first album, Kodama still regularly interacts with members of Fishmans to this day, sometimes appearing for live performances (such as his contributions on The Long Season Revue in 2005).
Trivia[]
- Kodama had a close friendship with band leader Shinji Sato, and following his death, Kodama stated that he believes Sato may well have committed suicide instead of simply dying from heart failure as was the official cause of death. This claim is mostly unfounded, mainly being based around lyrics of songs he wrote and happenstance.
